Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and Daewoo all build their own engines, although the bigger Daewoo engines are built for them in Australia by Holden (part of GM). It's my understanding that the small Nissan petrol engines (the ones that have been so troublesome) were farmed out to a subcontractor in Japan. Don't recall the name.
