The landing pad is awarded when your base computer hits 98% recovering the files. Be warned, several people have reported the final step of this quest is bugged. Nothing happens when going to another system to find the final location. You might want to back up your save file before triggering the base computer again after you get the landing pad. It can be done, but it makes the landing pad unusable; can't land, and NPC's won't land. When I try, it doesn't matter how high (got up to like 20 wall pieces/lengths high), it always says 'too close to starship' when I try add a floor piece anywhere above the landing pad. I want to build a kind of landing hanger, similar to a freighter.
One of my frigates has a damaged component. But the landing pads on the frigate appear to be the item that needs repaired. But I cannot land on the frigate to repair it. The game say "Landing unavailable" when I try. Any suggestions?

There are two types - derelict (from the recent update, has a purple icon, can land on it on a landing pad), and crashed/abandoned (is broken in pieces, cannot land on it, can blow cargo pods for loot/pirates).
What I usually do if I don't spot the landing pad right away is I will enter 'photo mode' which freezes the game if you're not in a group or in multiplayer, and fly around with the camera until I find the facility and/or area containing the landing pad. If you really don't want to land on the landing pad nearby, just fly a short distance away 3I8Bxs.
